Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the difference between personalized (made to order) and commission work?

A. Made to order, aka personalized, refers to items I make regularly and can make in your choice of color/size/length, etc. I already have the pattern and pre-dyed leather available to make it. Many made to order listings are available in the shop for you to pick your colors and details.

Commissioned work is a design we are making from scratch. No version of it is available in the shop, so I have to draft up a pattern, and may also have to order things that are currently not in my inventory, such as specific metal choices, dye, leather types/colors.

Q: What does your SDS sale mean?

SDS stands for Scratch, Dent, and Scrap.

Leather is a natural product that is full of flaws that include scratches, scars, folds, loose grain and other unique characteristics. We do our best to create flawless products from a material full of flaws, the result of which is a lot of useful and structurally sound leather cuts don't get used. We’ve got PILES of leather like this; every leathersmith does…and instead of tossing it out, we decided to use it to help cut down our waste and to help you get your toys for cheaper!

Q: Do you make leather clothing such as jackets, shirts, pants, etc.?

A: At this time our apparel is limited to harnesses. The apparel manufacturing process involves product design, consulting with pattern makers to make various sizes for patterns, and working with one tannery to get a bulk quantity of consistent leather. I simply do not have the space to expand to that line of leather work at this time. If you need a garment producer, I highly recommend my friend madjester.

Shipping:

Q: When can I expect my order?

A: Everything in the ready to ship section ships within 1-3 days of purchase.

Everything in the made to order section has a production time listed at the bottom of the item. On average, that’s 2-3 weeks for small items, and 4-6 weeks for large items. This does not include shipping time.

We ship Orders Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Our carriers may or may not require a signature based on the shipping method.

Q: How is your shipping eco-friendly?

A: Our packaging materials are cardboard shipping boxes, biodegradable paper-tape, PBAT compostable mail bags, honeycomb packing paper, and paper shipping labels.

Q: How is your shipping discrete?

A: Whatever you order is going to come in a plain cardboard box and will be wrapped in a black compostable bag. The company name on the shipping label is shortened to UGLTHR CO.

Q: Do you offer free shipping?

Yes, but it isn’t automatically applied. Use code FREESHIP250 for free shipping on orders over $250.

Q. Could you rush my order? What if I paid you more to rush my order?

A: No. Respectfully, I’m a disabled one person show who does everything by hand. Your item will ship out according to it’s production time.

What do you charge for domestic shipping (USA)?

I do flat rate shipping with USPS or UPS starting at 5$. Shipping goes up by 1$ for every pound.

Q: Do you ship outside of the US?

A: YES! We’re finally a global shipper! Shipping around the world starts at 16$ and is an additional 2$ per pound. Buyer is responsible for customs or VAT.

Q. Do you have a storefront I can come to look at your items in person?

A. My shop is not open to the public. You can find the shows that I am vending at under the Events tab in the shop.

Q: Do you accept returns or exchanges?

A: Due to the nature of our products, we cannot accept returns, as they are considered intimate products, same as you would expect in an adult toy store. Orders that arrive damaged or are lost in transit must be handled by the customer through the appropriate mail carrier.

We do offer a one-time modification to wearable items. Buyer is responsible for shipping costs unless we made an error on our end with sizing.

Q: Would you be willing to make an item out of vegan-leather?

A: I say this with the utmost respect because I understand where you’re coming from as a former-veg/an of 8 years, but no. Faux leather has a significantly shorter life-span than real leather, and when it’s time is up it falls apart into little pieces and microplastics. Even the “plant based” faux leathers in circulation (mushroom and cactus) are mixed with polyvinyl to some percentage. Real leather on the other hand is a bi-product of the meat industry, can last five times longer than all other textiles, and will decompose when left to the elements. We also primarily use veg-tanned leather, or source chrome tanned leather from tanneries focusing on eco friendly tanning methods. It truly is the most environmentally friendly option we have.
