FAQ about our products

This FAQ is to help you make informed decisions about your purchase. This list will be updated as more questions or products are created, so refer back to it as needed.

Before we go into the different types, here are a few general things that will effect the sensation of your leather impact toys:

Stiff = Sting
Soft = Thuddy
Heavy+Soft = Thuddy
Heavy+Stiff = Thud+Sting
Wide Falls = Thud
Thin Falls = Sting
Pointy tips = Super Sting
Holes = Super sting (due to less wind resistance)
Flat head metals = Deep impact

This is more important to remember than leather types in my opinion, because how you make a toy can overrule the sensation expectations of the hide. For example, Deerskin and buffalo are known to be "thuddy" when it comes to floggers, but if I use them to make a Rabbits Ear (which I do), they take on a stingy sensation because I shaped it to be stiffer and to a point.

Leather Types and Sensation expectations:

Deer: Deerskin is one of the most supple and softest leathers that you will find.  Though it is not a thick leather, it is very durable. Very soft and elastic and great for light flogging and sensation play. Perfect for beginners and a great warmup flogger. Because it is so light and soft, deer floggers will be thuddy or lightly thuddy with little to no sting.

Cow vege-tan: Not to be confused with "vegan leathers", veg or vege-tan leathers are animal hides tanned with vegetation based tannins such as bark, acorns, leaves, or roots. We use these hides to make most of our paddles. You can expect a sting similar to a hand spanking, with variable depth of impact depending on the thickness of the stack.

Cow Pull-up: This leather is a type of leather that is characterized by its distinctive aging and patina development. Pull-up leather gets its name from the way it responds when stretched or pulled, as it tends to reveal lighter tones underneath. This effect is achieved through the application of special oils and waxes, during the tanning process. We commonly use this leather for collars and cuffs because over-time, it will show you the character of your dynamic and play. When used for impact toys, it tends to be on the stingy side.

Cow Suede: Suede can be made from almost any animal hide. It is the result of the top leather grain being split from the flesh side if leather, leaving a hide that is fuzzy on both sides. Cow suede is one of the heavier types of suede and is good for light to medium flogging or soft sensation play.

Bullhide: Bullhide is a thicker, heavier version of cowhide. Thick, heavy and dense, but still flexible enough for floggers. This hide is great for heavy play with thuddy, deep impact.

Lamb: Lamb is very soft, thin, and delicate. It's good for very light sensation play such as using a flogger to tickle, or flogging sensitive areas such as the breast or genitals. We also commonly use lambskin as a decorative hide over paddles or rabbit ears, at which point the base hide is the expectation you should have for impact.

Buffalo: This hide is a best of both worlds in sensation play. When used to make floggers, it's heavy, solid, and thuddy. When taken to a point like on our Rabbits Ears, it delivers a sharp sting.
