FAQ
Q. What is the difference between personalized (made to order) and commission work?
A. Made to order, aka personalized, refers to items I make regularly and can make in your choice of color/size/length, etc. I already have the pattern and pre-dyed leather available to make it. Many made to order listings are available in the shop for you to pick your colors and details.
Commissioned work is a design we are making from scratch. No version of it is available in the shop, so I have to draft up a pattern, and may also have to order things that are currently not in my inventory, such as specific metal choices, dye, leather types/colors. Currently, I only offer custom work on these items:
Collars / Harnesses / Floggers / Rabbit ears / Devils tongues / Dragon Tails / Leather bats(beaters) / Belts / Handcuffs/ Master Covers / Pet Play Headbands / Blindfolds
If your interest does not fall into these categories, you can still email me and ask for my list of reputable leatherworkers.
Q: What does your SDS sale mean?
SDS stands for Scratch, Dent, and Scrap.
Leather is a natural product that is full of flaws that include scratches, scars, folds, loose grain and other unique characteristics. We do our best to create flawless products from a material full of flaws, the result of which is a lot of useful and structurally sound leather cuts don't get used. We’ve got PILES of leather like this; every leathersmith does…and instead of tossing it out, we decided to use it to help cut down our waste and to help you get some more affordable toys in your collection.
Q: Do you make leather clothing such as jackets, shirts, pants, etc.?
A: At this time our apparel is limited to custom harnesses. The apparel manufacturing process involves product design, consulting with pattern makers to make various sizes for patterns, and working with one tannery to get a bulk quantity of consistent leather. I simply do not have the space to expand to that line of leather work at this time.
Shipping:
Q: When can I expect my order?
A: Everything in the ready to ship section ships within 3-5 days of purchase.
Everything in the made to order section has a production time listed at the bottom of the item. On average, that’s 2-3 weeks for small items, and 4-6 weeks for large items. This does not include shipping time.
We ship Orders Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Our carriers may or may not require a signature based on the shipping method.
Q: How is your shipping eco-friendly?
A: Our packaging materials are cardboard shipping boxes, biodegradable paper-tape, PBAT compostable mail bags, honeycomb packing paper, and paper shipping labels. Some companies add pizzaz to their packaging, and that's awesome for them, but I've found that for us, specialty packaging would increase the costs of goods and produce unnecessary waste. I guarantee you will still be wowed by your item without the bougee unboxing experience.
Q: How is your shipping discrete?
A: Whatever you order is going to come in a plain cardboard box and will be wrapped in a black compostable bag. The company name on the shipping label is shortened to UGLTHR CO.
Q: Do you offer free shipping?
A: We have a free shipping discount that is automatically applied to US domestic orders that pass the $150 pre-tax threshold.
This offer excludes wholesale purchases and "entire order" discounts.
Q. Could you rush my order? What if I paid you more to rush my order?
A: No. Respectfully, I’m a disabled one person show and I do market tours. Your item will ship out according to it’s production time.
Q: What do you charge for domestic shipping (USA)?
A: Shipping is automatically calculated at check out. If the cost of shipping so happens to be less than what you were charged, you will be refunded the difference.
Q: Do you ship outside of the US?
A: YES! We’re finally a global shipper! Shipping is automatically calculated at check out. Buyer is responsible for customs or VAT.
Q. Do you have a storefront I can come to look at your items in person?
A. My shop is not open to the public. You can find the shows that I am vending at on the event page.
Q: Do you accept returns or exchanges?
A: Due to the nature of our products, we cannot accept returns, as they are considered intimate products, same as you would expect in an adult toy store. Orders that arrive damaged or are lost in transit must be handled by the customer through the appropriate mail carrier.
There are other ways we guarantee the quality of our work:
Resize Warranty
We offer a one-time modification or to wearable items that are not worn in, or around, genitals, anus, or used in the mouth (aka: Collars, cuffs, and chest harnesses). Buyer is responsible for asking for a resize within 14 days of delivery. Buyer is responsible for the costs of shipping the exchange.
Repair warranty
Customer is credited a one-time repair service to all items valued over $100 that may be used at anytime during the makers lifetime.
Buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping unless damages were accrued during fulfillment.
Repair services are up to my discretion. We may refuse repair warranty services If you misuse our products. Manufacture defects or natural wear and tear, such as stitching coming undone, finishing knots coming undone, or handle separation can be fixed. Deliberately or accidentally scratching and/or cutting the leather is not considered a defect or natural wear and tear, it is considered misuse. Misuse through improper storage or cleaning, resulting in wrinkles, cracking, discoloration, or molding leather is also not considered a defect or natural wear and tear. Accidental destruction of products (pets, car accidents, house fire, etc) is also not covered under the manufacturer warranty.
Should you need a repair service, please clean your product of any bodily fluids before shipment.
Please contact us at undergroundlthr@gmail.com to discuss these services before shipping.
We offer bootblacking services in the Atlanta area for locals who need assistance with cleaning and conditioning their leathers. You can find the events that I am bootblacking at on the event page.
Q: Why do you put a maker's mark on everything? Can I pay you to not put a makers mark on my item?
A: I understand the sentiment. These days branding exists on just about every item known to humankind and many people resent the idea of feeling like a marketing billboard, which is why my makers mark is what it is. It's not my direct company logo, it is actually a copy of a tattoo I have to honor my time as a sex-worker. And this makers mark it not a giant company billboard on your toys. It is an insurance policy. I know how hard it is to keep up with receipts, so every item I make get's stamped so that if you ever need to cash in on the warranty above, you don't need a receipt. Just show me the makers mark :)
Q: Do you offer wholesale purchasing?
Yes, We do offer wholesale discount if you buy in bulk. Bulk is considered a minimum of 10 of the same item in the same color. We only offer wholesale purchasing for items that do not have customization sizing options. Please contact us at undergroundlthr@gmail.com for more information.
Q: Would you be willing to make an item out of vegan-leather?
A: No. Faux leather has a significantly shorter life-span than real leather, and when it’s time is up, it falls apart into little pieces and microplastics. Even the “plant based” faux leathers in circulation (mushroom and cactus) are mixed with polyvinyl to some percentage. Real leather on the other hand is a bi-product of the meat industry, can last five times longer than all other textiles, and will decompose when left to the elements. We also primarily use veg-tanned leather, or source chrome tanned leather from tanneries focusing on eco friendly tanning methods. It truly is the most environmentally friendly option we have.
Our best vegan alternative is upcycled leather, but typically second hand leather is almost always garment/ furniture grade, so we cannot source thicker leathers for heavy duty toys, and color options will be limited to what we find.
